TEN-PIT: Does Tennessee have a chance?

Oct 11, 2012

With last week marking the first time this season that the Pittsburgh Steelers had a defense at full strength, it didn't take long before Troy Polamalu and LaMar Woodley were limping off the field. But the key to this game isn't the defense, its the offense. Running backs in particular. Rashard Mendenhall made his return last week from an ACL injury, and it looks as though he hasn't missed a beat. Rushing for 68 yards doesn't seem like a very daunting number but he made every carry valuable with 5.2 YPC and also added in 3 catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. On the flip side we have Chris Johnson. Yes, he has rushed for over 1,000 yards in his first fours seasons in the league (including his 2,000 yard season of '09). Last year he barely hit the 1,000 yard mark and didn't look like the same CJ2K from years past as he only hit the 100 yard mark four times all season. This year hasn't looked any better. Is he the most overrated RB in the league? Possibly. Is he ready to hit his stride and have another remarkable run like in '09? Also possible. I'll take my chances this week with Johnson as the Pittsburgh defense has not been able to stop the run. This game should stay pretty close assuming Johnson can get going. Don't look for it to be a very high scoring game either. Pittsburgh 17, Tennessee 13.
